This web-page gives links to various other web-pages and sections within this website. There is information about dental problems and further details about my Canvey Island dental practice where I have been practising dentistry for over twenty years. The information provided on www.markpreston.co.uk is designed to support, not replace, the relationship that exists between a patient/site visitor and his/her dentist. The author is Mark Preston unless otherwise stated. It is intended to be suitable for anybody to view, especially my patients and others seeking dental treatment in the South East Essex area.

Update 25th January 2022: Following the latest guidance we will be starting to return to a more normal service, including normal "check-ups" by appointment only. Patients will still be triaged by telephoning 01268 683739 and dealt with according to capacity. If you cannot make your appointment please give us at least 24 hours notice, and if you feel ill please let us know as soon as possible. Facemasks are still required to be worn in the waiting room and entering the practice.

Update 8th June 2020: Following the latest guidance we will be opening on 8th June to do some limited face-to-face dentistry. Initially for urgent dental care and by appointment only. Patients with urgent dental care needs will still be triaged by telephoning 01268 683739.

From Wednesday 25th March 2020 all face-to-face routine and urgent dental treatment at this practice will cease for possibly three months. Patients with urgent dental care needs will be triaged by telephoning 01268 683739. This should mean that they get access to:
Advice
Analgesia (Pain relieving tablets such as paracetamol, aspirin or dihydrocodeine tartrate)
Antimicrobial (Antibiotics such as Amoxicillin, Erythromycin and Metronidazole)

If a patient's condition cannot be managed by these means, then they will need to be referred to the appropriate part of their Local Urgent Dental Care (UDC) system and separated and treated according to whether they are:
1. Patients who are possible or confirmed COVID-19 patients - including patients with symptoms, or those living in their household
2. Patients who are shielded - those who are at most significant risk from COVID-19
3. Patients who are vulnerable / at increased risk from COVID-19
4. Patients who do not fit one of the above categories

The range of conditions provided for by local UDC systems are likely to include, but are not limited to:
Life threatening emergencies, e.g. airway restriction or breathing/swallowing difficulties due to facial swelling
Trauma including facial/oral laceration and/or dentoalveolar injuries, for example avulsion of a permanent tooth
Oro-facial swelling that is significant and worsening
Post-extraction bleeding that the patient is not able to control with local measures
Dental conditions that have resulted in acute and severe systemic illness
Severe dental and facial pain: that is, pain that cannot be controlled by the patient following self-help advice
Fractured teeth or tooth with pulpal exposure
Dental and soft tissue infections without a systemic effect
Oro-dental conditions that are likely to exacerbate systemic medical conditions
